The most creative, original, and viable of these
ideas win substantial cash prizes. The competition is
also a great chance to learn about the entrepreneurial
process and to experience first hand some of the issues
that accompany the development of an idea into a viable
business. Who knows, maybe with a bit of luck some of
these ideas will actually go on to become successful new
ventures.

How do I enter?
To enter the competition, you must submit an idea to
start a business. The idea can be anything but it must
be the original work of entrants. The proposal must be
6 pages minimum and should preferably be typed. This
is an idea-generation competition and exhaustive
research is not required. However, for the purposes of
adding some rigour to your entry, you should try to
consider some of the following questions in your
proposal:
- Outline of your teams idea. What is your idea? What is unique or special about
this idea?
- Market analysis. Is there a market for your product/service?
- Financial analysis (P&L, Balance Sheet)
- Who are your likely competitors?
- How will you be different from these competitors?
- Who are your customers?
- How will you sell this product/service?
But remember, your ultimate challenge is to convince
the panel of judges - who are drawn from the business
community and academia - that this is a good idea. In
other words, your entry should be creative, innovative,
clearly communicated, and above all, it should have a
realistic chance of success in the marketplace (i.e. no
flying cars please.).
Be sure to mention in your entry the name, contact
number/address, academic faculty and year of all team
members. The deadline for submitting your entry is 17th
March 2005, at 5 p.m.. No entries submitted after 5p.m.
will be accepted. Winners will be notified before the
summer holidays.
